OPSEU/SEFPO Mental Health and Addictions Division
The Mental Health and Addictions Division of OPSEU/SEFPO has been operating for over 20 years to promote awareness and treatment of mental health and addictions. The division is over 8,000 members strong and represents frontline workers in 13 CMHA agencies across the province, as well as in public hospitals.
OPSEU/SEFPO Mental Health and Addictions Division has had the ear of governments of all stripes and have led to concrete improvements in government policies and funding. The talent and expertise and advice of this sector is recognized and respected by all political parties.
The Mental Health and Addictions Division is very active and is driven by frontline workers in the field who have the experience and expertise to know what is working and what isn’t.
The Division holds yearly bargaining conferences, where every Local across the province is represented. At the bargaining conference the Division discusses and puts forward suggestions of language to negotiate into your Local’s collective agreement.
The division also puts out a twice-yearly newsletter to all members, that explains the accomplishments and challenges faced across the province in mental health and addictions.
OPSEU/SEFPO admires and respects Mental Health and Addictions workers and the very important work you do.
In fact, at the most recent convention of OPSEU in the spring, OPSEU’s highest award for activism and mobilization, the Leah Casselman Award, went to Tischa Forster, of the former Oxford CMHA, for her tremendous advocacy work around Mental Health and Addictions in Oxford County and Province-wide.
Que se passe-t-il ensuite?
Au Canada, vous avez le droit constitutionnel d’adhérer et de participer à un syndicat. Mais vous et vos collègues ne deviendrez pas membres à part entière du syndicat du jour au lendemain.
Voici votre feuille de route :
- Une fois que vous avez signé votre carte de l’OPSEU/SEFPO, encouragez vos collègues à faire de même. Plus vous êtes nombreux à signer des cartes rapidement, plus vous deviendrez membres rapidement!
- Consultez vos courriels et messages-textes personnels pour vous tenir au courant des mises à jour et des événements.
- Une fois qu’un groupe important d’entre vous a signé des cartes, l’OPSEU/SEFPO dépose une requête auprès de la Commission des relations de travail de l’Ontario (CRTO). Puis deux choses se produisent :
- 1. Début de la « période de gel » qui vous protège
- 2. La CRTO planifie un vote au scrutin secret dans les semaines ou mois à venir.
- La « période de gel » qui vous protège. Une fois que nous avons envoyé la requête à la CRTO, la loi interdit à vos gestionnaires de modifier arbitrairement vos propres conditions ou vos conditions de travail.
- Votre vote au scrutin secret. C’est maintenant à vous de voter officiellement pour devenir membre de l’OPSEU/SEFPO. Si la majorité d’entre vous vote en faveur de l’adhésion à l’OPSEU/SEFPO, vous devenez membres!
- Préparation des négociations. Avec l’aide et les conseils de l’OPSEU/SEFPO, vous élisez votre équipe de négociation et déterminez ensemble vos priorités principales – meilleurs salaires, protection de la santé et de la sécurité et une voix qui sera entendue et respectée légalement!
- Début des négociations. Votre équipe de négociation, avec l’aide du personnel de l’OPSEU/SEFPO, négocie votre première convention collective.
- Ayez votre mot à dire. Une fois que votre équipe de négociation a conclu une entente de principe avec l’employeur, vous et tous vos collègues votez. Si la majorité vote non, votre équipe de négociation et l’employeur reviennent à la table. La majorité vote oui. Félicitations! Vous avez votre première convention collective.
