Bargaining on the horizon

In a preliminary address to all stakeholders, unions and associations, Minister of Education Laurel Broten stressed that while the government is committed to discussions that are fair and reasonable, they must also consider the economic climate and fiscal responsibilities they are facing.

First Step: Government Communiqué

On February 22, 2012, OPSEU and other unions and associations in the Education Sector attended a meeting with representatives of the provincial government.

The government representatives presented a document outlining their parameters regarding the August 2012 contract renewal which reflects the government’s position. It is quite clear that this round of bargaining will be significantly different from the previous one!

Next Steps

The next meeting with the government is scheduled for March 3. A Conference call will be set up for all Local Presidents to update them on the discussions (more information to follow).
