Sarnia- Lambton Rally draws 200 people to “Take A Stand” for Child and Youth Mental Health
May 6, 2011 Members of OPSEU Local 145 St. Clair Child and Youth Services held a rally with partners of the Ontario Action Network for Child and Youth Mental Health on May 5 at City Hall. Deb Gordon, Chair of the sector urged the community to sign a pledge to ask candidates in the October provincial election to ensure that ychilkd and youth mental health services get the funding they need. Peter Smith spoke on behalf of a Parent Advocacy Group and Emily and Trina representing New Mentality and Mind your Mind spoke eloquently about their struggle with mental health.
Children"s Mental Health Week: May 2 – 9

OPSEU Child and Youth Treatment workers are asking communities to “Take a Stand” with youth, parents and families during Children’s Mental Health week. The Ontario Action Network for Child and Youth Mental Health is a provincial coalition of youth, parents, service providers, unions and other partners committed to ending the crisis in child and youth mental health.
The Ontario Action network is asking the Liberal government to ensure that sustainable, long term funding be directed to community agencies to close the “capacity gap” created after years of neglect.
In its 2011 budget, the Ontario government pledged $257 million for child and youth mental health services. This new funding must be directed to community agencies where the leadership is – at the local level where community agencies make the difference.
