Homes First solidarity rally makes some noise!
Thanks to a turnout of more than 50 members and supporters, the OPSEU Local 540 solidarity rally on Wednesday, February 27 made some serious noise.
Rush hour traffic supported the rally with loud honking provoking yells of appreciation from the line, while Homes First clients came out to dance to the union songs blaring from the sound system and chat with the members.
High energy dominated the one-hour rally, undaunted by the sleet and icy conditions. A large contingent of COPE members from Porter Airlines joined the demonstrators in a show of solidarity. Their special technique of circling the intersection while kicking up a racket with noise-makers brought a lot of extra attention. Several police cruisers hovered on the sidelines, but the whole event was peaceful and positive. Well, not peaceful… but definitely a positive show of strength and solidarity!
Special thanks to our COPE supporters, the "Flying Squad" from GTAC, Alt. EBM Ibrahim Bozai, Local Presidents Myles Magner (Local 568) and Marilou Martin (Local 557), and all who have made donations to OPSEU local 540 including GTAC, Local 568, Local 532, Local 502, Local 553, Local 571 and Local 526. Your solidarity is greatly appreciated!
