Who we are …
BARB DeROCHE
I am a central registration clerk at Religious Hospitallers of St. Joseph Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston. I am currently president of Local 443 and alternate executive board member for OPSEU Region 4.
As your new chair of the Hospital Support Sector, I am excited and looking forward to working with you and the new executive for the next two years. We have several new faces joining the executive and a few familiar faces who will continue to work and support the members in our sector. Our executive team brings many skills and a vast wealth of knowledge from across the province. I would like to give a special thank you to the outgoing executive for their years of dedication and commitment to their locals and the sector.
The 2013 BPS Conference has come and gone and winter is slowly departing. Your new sector executive met in early September and held a conference call in December. We have been busy developing the sector work plan for the next term. We will continue our mandate for coordinated bargaining, addressing our RPN’s issues, along with several other initiatives.
As always we would like to hear from our hospital support locals. We want to hear about your concerns and achievements. The Sector Activity Reports are sent out by your executive contacts, quarterly. Please complete the activity report as it helps us to address or focus on issues of concern to you, our members.

Local 260 – I am currently working extensively on Transitional Return to Work at Grey Bruce Health Services. As an OPSEU member since 1999 my former positions include president and vice-president of my local, chair of Sector 11 and chair of the health care divisional council.

LISA HOVINGA
I have worked as an RPN at St. Francis Memorial Hospital in Barry’s Bay for 25 years and an active OPSEU member for more than 20 years. I believe that we all deserve a safe work environment and equality of pay in the workplace. I am looking forward to serving on the executive as treasurer.

Local 374 steward; former positions include president, vice-president and member of the bargaining team. I work as an operating room assistant (27 years) at MacKenzie Health Hospital in Richmond Hill. I am a firm believer in Solidarity as together we can overcome every challenge. Fair contracts are important for our members.

Local 443 chief steward. I work as Secretary II at Hotel Dieu Hospital in Kingston. Last year I was active in the Ontario Health Coalition working to keep our hospitals public. Diablogue
We finished the year on a high note in December with nearly 13,000 hits on the Diablogue for the month. That gave us a total of 106,413 for the year. The goal had been to get into six figures with 100,000 hits. Remember to visit this site often to keep current on health sector news.
