OPSEU/SEFPO is proud of the way transportation enforcement officers (TEOs) keep our roads safe by inspecting commercial vehicles, pulling unsafe vehicles off the road, and enforcing the law. We know that as TEOs, you have been significantly underpaid for the work you do in comparison to similar positions in the OPS. As a result, TEOs are leaving the profession for higher-paying jobs, and the ministry hasn’t been able to replace them.

Pressure is building on this issue. OPSEU/SEFPO’s MTO MERC team has championed your special case at the MERC table. The Auditor General noted in 2019 that fewer TEOs on the job has meant a significant reduction in commercial vehicle inspections, impacting highway safety.

President Warren (Smokey) Thomas recently sent a letter to Transportation Minister Mulroney and President of the Treasury Board Peter Bethlenfalvy, asking them to direct their managers to approve reclassification and fair compensation for your work.

Now your MPPs need to hear from you.

You can keep the momentum going by talking to your MPP and telling them why TEOs need to be paid fairly. You don’t have to be a professional lobbyist to lobby your MPP. You are the expert on what you do as a TEO – and it’s your MPP’s job to listen to what you have to say.

OPSEU/SEFPO has created a lobbying kit with the help of several TEO members to help you share your concerns with your MPPs. Download these resources and get in touch with your MPP today!
