OPSEU/SEFPO is pleased to welcome our newest members – the hospital professionals who work in the Imaging Department and as Medical Laboratory Technologists at the Alexandra Marine and General Hospital in Goderich, Ontario.
Lab and diagnostic imaging professionals play a critical role in patient health – finding the correct diagnosis for an illness or injury, so that the appropriate treatment can be determined. This work is crucial for early and accurate diagnosis that can save lives.
“Health care professionals have kept Ontario running through good times and bad, through the COVID crisis and long before it,” said OPSEU/SEFPO President JP Hornick. “They’ve endured extreme short-staffing, burnout, and mental health injury while the province essentially cut their wages. It’s not acceptable, and as members of OPSEU/SEFPO, these professionals have joined a union that will organize, fight, and win for better wages, working conditions and to protect our public health care system.”
The Lab and diagnostic imaging professionals will join OPSEU/SEFPO’s largest health care cluster – the Hospital Professionals Division (HPD) – representing more than 25,000 members in 84 hospitals and among more than 250 health professions.
“Hospital professionals have been pushed beyond the breaking point,” said HPD Chair Sara Labelle. “But, as members of OPSEU/SEFPO and the Hospital Professionals Division, these professionals are now part of a solid, winning team and they will get the support they deserve. They will have a much stronger voice moving forward with their employer, and together, we will be a stronger voice for hospital professionals in Ontario.”
