OCOT Workers: We know the trades

We Know the Trades logo

Created in 2009, the Ontario College of Trades (OCOT) regulates and promotes 156 skilled trades, including 23 where certification is compulsory to legally perform the work. OPSEU members provide important functions/services to maintain and improve Ontario’s apprenticeship and trades certification system.

The Ford government’s Bill 47 includes a provision to “wind up” OCOT. At risk is the protection of the public in key trades, as well as the safety and proper training of apprentices and journeypersons.

OPSEU is working hard to ensure OCOT’s functions – and the members who currently provide them – are part of the college’s successor organization.
